The PGA Institute Careers in Golf Scholarship, supported by Golf Australia, has officially launched to help grow and develop talent within the Australian golf industry. This joint initiative brings together Golf Australia, the sport’s national governing body, and the PGA Institute, the country’s only golf-specific Registered Training Organisation, to provide valuable opportunities for individuals passionate about building a career in golf.
The program will provide funding for individuals working in regional golf clubs and venues to upskill staff and for recent school leavers in metropolitan Melbourne to start their careers. These scholarships aim to strengthen the sport’s future and create clear career pathways.
Scholarships Areas
Regional
The primary focus is to provide assistance to individuals working in regional clubs and venues to further develop their knowledge of the golf industry and assist the development of the skilled golf workforce. This scholarship also applies to students residing in regional areas an opportunity to take a step towards working in the golf industry.
Criteria:
- Be over 18 years of age
- An Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia
- Not currently receiving any other scholarship/funding from the PGA of Australia
- Working at a golf club or venue in a regional area in a State or Territory of Australia; or,
- Residing in a regional area in a State or Territory of Australia, with the intention of working in the golf industry
Scholarship Inclusions:
Course: Diploma of Golf Business and Management (Online)
Eligible students may receive a bursary of up to $4,500 as part of the PGA Institute Careers in Golf Scholarship – Supported by Golf Australia. This amount is intended to assist with tuition fees.
Course: PGA Institute Micro-credentials
Eligible students may receive a bursary of up to $600 as part of the PGA Institute Careers in Golf Scholarship – Supported by Golf Australia . This amount is intended to assist with tuition fees.
Metropolitan Melbourne
The primary focus of these scholarships is to work with secondary schools to provide recent year 12 graduates who have an interest in golf the opportunity to complete a Diploma of Golf Business and Management as a foundational step towards solidifying a rewarding career in the golf industry.
Criteria:
- Be over 18 years of age
- An Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia residing in Metropolitan Melbourne
- Not currently receiving any other scholarship/funding from the PGA of Australia
Course: Diploma of Golf Business and Management (On-campus)
Eligible students may receive a bursary of up to $6,500 as part of the PGA Institute Careers in Golf Scholarship – Supported by Golf Australia. This amount is intended to assist with tuition fees.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Step 1 – Expression of Interest by October 1
Interested applicants must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) form, outlining their eligibility and reasons for applying. This brief submission allows the selection panel to shortlist candidates for the next stage.
Shortlisted candidates will be notified by the October 8th.
Step 2 – Full Application
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a full application, to include:
- A personal statement or cover letter where applicants will need to answer the following questions:
- How would you benefit from receiving education with the PGA Institute through a PGA Institute Careers in Golf Scholarship – Supported by Golf Australia Please tell us what golf means to you and the role it plays in your life or those of others?
- What are your future career ambitions?
- Academic transcripts or training results (if applicable)
- References or support letters X2
Third Step – Video interview
Shortlist candidates will then be invited to a virtual interview with the selection panel which is to include:
- PGA Institute Senior Manager
- PGA Institute Student Recruitment Coordinator
- Golf Australia Head of Workforce Engagement
Successful candidates will be notified by November 17th.
Acceptance of Scholarship:
Successful candidate will then complete the supporting documents to accept the scholarship by December 1st:
- Acceptance of scholarship form
- Student scholarship agreement (including code of conduct for scholarship students)
- Media release form
Terms and Conditions
All scholarship award recipients are subject to the following terms and conditions (where relevant):
- Scholarship funds received are not transferable or refundable
- Scholarship award recipients must make themselves available for promotional and media requests
- If a scholarship award recipient is terminated from their educational program all scholarship funding is forfeited
